Sporty striped bass to be introduced into Bull Shoals Reservoir

The Missouri Department of Conservation is preparing to introduce popular sport fish into southwest Missouri's Bull Shoals Reservoir.

Striped bass were stocked on the Arkansas side of the sprawling lake in 1998. Now, MDC plans to do the same in the lake's northern reaches.

The agency says it will produce 16,000 striped bass fingerlings and stock the Missouri side of Bull Shoals with the fish every other year.

Striped bass are primarily an ocean fish native to the Atlantic coastal region and do not spawn naturally in Bull Shoals.

Boston strong: 5K race shows support for bombing victims, families

This weekend, Columbia hosted the 118th Boston Strong 5K race. The event was part of a global effort by pavementrunner.com to raise awareness and support for Boston marathon bombing victims.

About 35 runners, walkers, volunteers and supporters gathered in the rain at Stephens Lake Park Saturday morning for the 118th Boston Strong 5K run. The race began at 9:30 a.m. with a moment of silence, where participants raised their hands in a number-one sign to signify their support for Boston.

Mizzou's Sheldon Richardson picked in 1st round of NFL draft

The New York Jets picked Missouri defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson with the 13th overall pick in the NFL draft Thursday night.

The Jets and coach Rex Ryan loaded up on defense in the first round after also taking Alabama cornerback Dee Milliner with the No. 9 pick. New York acquired the 13th pick from Tampa Bay for cornerback Darrelle Revis on Sunday.

LSU-Missouri game postponed by snow

The women's basketball teams from LSU and Missouri will have to wait at least one more day for their first meeting since the 1989-90 season because of a major snow storm in the Midwest.

University officials say the game, originally scheduled Thursday night in Columbia, has been postponed until Friday at 1 p.m.

A state of emergency has been declared in the Columbia area, where about 10 inches of snow has made travel hazardous Thursday and blocked some roadways near the Mizzou Arena.

The postponement means the game won't be televised regionally as originally scheduled.

Mizzou coach Haith included in allegations against Miami

Miami has finally received its notice of allegations from the NCAA, a long-awaited document accuses the Hurricanes of a “lack of institutional control” within its athletic department.

A person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press that several former members of Miami coaching staffs are named in the notice of allegations, including Missouri basketball coach Frank Haith, who was with the Hurricanes from 2004-11.

SEC entry yields another hefty gift for Mizzou

The University of Missouri's first year in the Southeastern Conference continues to pay dividends away from the field.

School officials on Tuesday announced an $8.3 million gift from Don and Audrey Walsworth of Marceline. The donation follows a $30 million gift from the Kansas City Sports Trust in June and a $6.4 million anonymous contribution in December.

The Walsworth gift will go toward previously announced Memorial Stadium improvements. The school plans to add 6,000 seats to the stadium, which now holds 71,004 fans.
