Tenure, non tenure: why does it matter at MU?

Last month, University of Missouri faculty voted to give Non-Tenure Track faculty members the right to vote at Faculty Council meetings and in campus-wide elections. At MU over the past few years, there has been an increase of Non Tenure Track faculty, or NTTs, while the percentage of tenure track members has slowly declined.

But that’s not unique, the New York Times reports in the last few decades colleges across the country have been hiring more NTTs.

To students, concerns about faculty basically have to do with teachers giving them the information they need each day in class to be successful and get a good grade.

To teachers, it is not that simple. They have to figure out the curriculum to teach, what to teach from a class to class basis, as well as taking care of other things the school requires.

MU Doctor new head of largest medical specialty org in the U.S.

Doctor David Fleming of the University of Missouri’s School of Medicine is the new president-elect of the American College of Physicians, the nation's largest medical specialty organization.

Fleming was elected to the post Thursday, and will spend the rest of the year as president-elect until his official term begins in 2014. He says he is already planning for what will be the most pressing aspects of his term.

Sequestration would hit MU research funding hard

Sequestration, or the automatic across-the-board funding cuts set to kick in nationwide at the beginning of 2013, will tally nearly $110 billion dollars in cuts over the next nine years. The cuts are meant to alleviate the trillion dollar deficit. Congressional Republicans and Democrats are currently facing a stalemate on a solution to the severe fiscal cuts sequestration calls for while still fixing the deficit. KBIA’s Kristofor Husted reports that millions of dollars are at stake for the University of Missouri System.

MU pushes forward its smoke-free campus policy

The University of Missouri has announced that MU’s campus will become 100 percent smoke–free earlier than planned. The smoke-free date has been moved up from January 2014 to July next year.
