High school athletes at risk for concussions

 

Eight hundred and seventy one high school students suffered concussions during last fall, according to a new survey conducted by the Missouri State High School Activities Association. Unsurprisingly, 75 percent of those concussions happened to football players.  State lawmakers made this survey mandatory last year, so there isn’t any previous data with which to compare it.

Legislators debate bill punishing unruly behavior near worship centers

Legislation inside of the general assembly would punish unruly behavior near religious centers.

Sparked by past events around the nation, one Missouri senator is trying to make disrupting a house of worship punishable by up to 15 days in jail and a three hundred dollar fine for first time offenders.

House approves English-only driver's tests

Curators approve tuition increase

Tuition at the University of Missouri, where Brady Deaton serves as Chancellor, will rise as much as 7.5 percent.

University of Missouri curators have voted to increase tuition by 3 percent for Missouri residents starting this summer. Out of state students will see a tuition increase of 7.5 percent.

Missouri foreclosures spike in January

The number of foreclosures in Missouri jumped nearly 14 percent in January compared to the month before. Meanwhile, foreclosures were up only 3 percent nationwide.

Springfield group pushes discrimination ban

The Springfield City Council is being asked to consider ordinances that would ban discrimination against gay people.

The Mayor's Commission on Human Rights sent three proposed ordinances to the city council that are designed to work together to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

UM Board of Curators approves tuition increase

The University of Missouri's in-state undergraduates received a good news today.  The UM Board of Curators voted to hold tuition increases to three percent starting this fall.  In past weeks there was discussion of raising tuition by two or three times that much.  However, the proposed tuition increase will leave MU with a forty-seven million dollar budget gap.
