47 West Ash Neighborhood Homes Approved for Downzoning

The Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved a request to “downzone” a group of 47 West Ash homes Thursday night to shield their homes from the possibility of being redeveloped in the future.

Around 17 West Ash homeowners attended in support of the downzoning request and expressed wishes to preserve their homes.

”We’ve done a lot of work on our home,” said Cannie Briscoe, a 27-year resident of Aldeah Avenue. “We love our home, we love our neighborhood. We feel safe there. Please don’t take it away from us.”

Most of the homes under the request would downzone from R-2 (two-family dwelling) or R-MF (multiple-family dwelling) properties to R-1 (one-family dwelling) properties. One homeowner requested a zoning change from R-MF to R-2.
