After Record Highs in May, Missouri Gears Up for Summer Safety Week

After a May of record-breaking temperatures, organizations in Missouri want people to know the risks associated with excessive heat.

The National Weather Service, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and the Missouri Department of Public Safety are promoting Missouri Summer Safety Week, which runs from June 18 to 24.

Columbia is among several cities in Missouri reaching all-time high average temperatures for May. It was also the warmest May on record for the state, MU Extension climatologist Pat Guinan said.
