Boone Hospital Center Opens New Lab

Boone Hospital Center’s new $5.9 million lab officially opened Tuesday.

By Daina Schnese (Columbia, Mo.)

Located in the basement of the new patient tower, the lab can process up to 1,500 specimens each day.

Though efficiency is one big improvement with the switch from a manual to an automated lab process, Director of Lab Management Brenda Dolan says it definitely is not the only advancement.

“We have these very large, expensive pieces of equipment that are very, very sensitive to humidity levels, to temperature levels, and if they get too warm, which, often times they did in the old lab, they’ll just shut down.”

The lab provides everything from urine testing to tissue sample testing and with new equipment it can now provide vitamin D testing. Dolan says the new lab will continue to help the hospital provide new tests in the future.
