Missouri Republicans vying to become the next governor are rolling out the first campaign ads of the election.
The initial ads offer a glimpse into the candidates' strategies as they face a competitive four-way primary Aug. 2.
Suburban St. Louis businessman John Brunner, former Navy SEAL Eric Greitens, former Missouri House speaker and U.S. attorney Catherine Hanaway and Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder want the GOP nomination.
The winner will face off Nov. 8 against the Democratic candidate, which likely will be Attorney General Chris Koster.
One ad shows Brunner holding hands with his wife in prayer. Greitens using a military style assault rifle in another and causes an explosion.
Retired Northwest Missouri State University political scientist Richard Fulton says the goal is to "out-conservative each other."
