Five injured in car accident following Kansas City police chase

Five people were taken to a hospital after a car fleeing from Kansas City police collided with another vehicle.

The Kansas City Star reports the incident began around 2 p.m. Thursday when police officers spotted a black Chevrolet Impala they suspected of being carjacked.

Police say the driver of the Impala fled and struck a GMC SUV carrying a couple and their infant son.

Police say the child appeared uninjured but was taken to the hospital as a precaution. The child's mother was in critical condition and was expected to undergo surgery, while the father was treated for injuries.

Two people in the Impala were also taken to the hospital.
