Julia Coggins Chosen as Lee Expressive Arts Principal

Julia Coggins is the Columbia Public School’s choice for principal at Lee Expressive Arts Elementary School in the 2018-19 school year.

Michelle Baumstark, Community Relations Director for Columbia Public Schools, said CPS recommended her to the Board of Education.

“She is the candidate that has been selected for the position. We look forward to welcoming her to Lee Expressive Arts Elementary School and formal approval will happen by the Board of Education,” Baumstark said.

Coggins has more than 15 years’ experience as a classroom teacher and school administrator. She is currently the assistant principal at Eliot Battle Elementary School.

Coggins says her first year goals are about the community.

“Spending time with families outside of school. I really love spending time with kids in the classroom. I like to be visible a lot. So up and down the hallways, saying good morning or spending time at their recess time, that kind of things,” Coggins said.

Coggins says she is thankful for the support and warm welcomes she has received.
