Kansas City councilwoman Jolie Justus has re-entered the race for Kansas City mayor in 2019.
The announcement comes one week after Jason Kander withdrew from the race citing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder and depression.
In a video announcing the news, Justus first thanked Kander.
“I have never been more proud to call you my friend your courage in the face of a challenge far too many people ignore is an inspiration," she said. "I wish the best to you and your family.”
In the video, Justus touted her skills as problem solver and someone who can bring people together.
“We all have the same goal: an inclusive, growing world-class city. But I think we can do it with more collaboration and less agitation,” Justus said.
The crowded field to replace Sly James in 2019 now includes six current members of the city council, plus attorney Steve Miller, businessman Phil Glynn and businesswoman Rita Berry.
