Peter Kinder has decided not to seek the Republican nomination for Missouri governor, and will instead run for a third term as Lt. Governor.

By Marshall Griffin (Jefferson City, Mo.)

In a written statement, Kinder said  he’s seeking re-election in order to continue serving as the state’s chief advocate for senior citizens.  He stated that his office has been, quote, “cleaning up the mess” of the Nixon administration’s failure to provide assessments in a timely manner to seniors waiting to be approved for home care services.

Kinder also endorses St. Louis businessman Dave Spence for governor, saying that he’s the GOP’s best chance for unseating Democrat Jay Nixon.  Kinder’s aspirations for governor suffered a blow following revelations this summer that he frequented a strip club in the 1990’s.

Fellow Republicans Brad Lager and Michael Carter are also running for Lt. Governor, although McKee’s campaign also stated that an official announcement was pending.
