Missouri Announces New State Veterinarian

Missouri has a new state veterinarian for the first time in nearly 20 years.

By Tom Martin (Columbia, Mo.)

The Missouri Department of Agriculture announced Linda Hickam as the new state veterinarian Tuesday, replacing Dr. Taylor Woods.

Richard Antweiler is the executive director of the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association. He has worked with Hickam.

“She has really done great work in disease control for Missouri,” he said.  “She’s a very thoughtful and hardworking individual. She’s really a great choice to fill the big shoes of Dr. Taylor Woods.”

Antweiler added, despite the change he does not expect any major changes in policy. Woods will continue to serve as a senior advisor to the Missouri Department of Agriculture on livestock industry issues.
