The University of Missouri system announced Missouri S&T Chancellor Cheryl Schrader will be the new president of Wright State University, a university located in Dayton, OH.

Schrader will be leaving S&T after five years in her position.

She will be the first female president at Wright State, according to a news release.

Michael Bridges, chair of the Board of Trustees at Wright State, said the board was looking for a candidate with strong leadership.

He also said Schrader’s leadership skills are valuable to the university, especially as they undergo a financial remediation plan.

Bridges said she was chosen from 61 applicants and the board voted unanimously to approve her as the new president.

Schrader will begin her position on July 1, 2017.

UM System President Mun Choi congratulated Schrader in a news release on her position and remarked on her accomplishments during her time as chancellor.

John Fougere, chief communications officer in the UM System, said that under Schrader the enrollment at S&T has grown 16 percent, and there has been an increased in ranked faculty members.

“Sometimes when you have great leaders like we do in the University of Missouri system, they’ll be in demand by other universities,” Fougere said.

Fougere said the UM System will be meeting with members of the S&T community to create a transition plan to name an interim chancellor. He said the appointment of an interim chancellor should happen quickly.

He said he do not know when the system will appoint the new chancellor, but the search will be conducted nationwide.

Fougere said they will be looking for someone with a background in STEM because of S&T’s position as a science and technology school. Additionally, they are looking someone with the skills to communicate with internal community members like faculty and student, but also be able to communicate with donors, alumni, and the legislature.
