A petition to raise the minimum wage in Missouri has reached the secretary of state.

The petition seeks to increase minimum wage one dollar – from seven-twenty-five an hour to eight-twenty-five an hour. Pending the verification of signatures, the amendment would be on the November ballot.

Progress Missouri’s Sean Soendker Nicholson, a spokesperson for the advocacy group, says that one dollar would make a difference.

“So, that’s 40 dollars a week, and if you are working full time and you’ve got kids to feed and clothes to buy and gas that you need to get to where you need to be for work, or family, or whatever, that 40 dollars a week is a real deal," he said.

Workers that receive tips would receive 60 percent of the minimum wage – a 10 percent increase.
