Monsanto Rejects $62B Bayer Bid, but Still Open to Talks

Bayer says it looks forward to holding merger talks with Monsanto, after the St. Louis company said earlier it would consider a higher bid.

The German drugs and chemicals company offered $62 billion for Monsanto on Monday, but that was quickly rejected as "incomplete and financial inadequate."

A merger of the two companies would create a giant seed and farm chemical company with a strong presence in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

Bayer AG expressed confidence Tuesday that it can address any potential financing or regulatory issues related to the proposed deal.
