MU Announces Henson as Interim Vice Chancellor for Inclusion, Diversity and Equity

University of Missouri School of Law

The University of Missouri Provost announced that Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Trial Practice in the MU School of Law Chuck Henson would be named Interim Vice Chancellor for Inclusion, Diversity and Equity effective immediately.

Provost and Executive Chancellor Garnett S. Stokes made the announcement on Tuesday morning in an email sent to students, faculty and staff.

The position was announced to students, faculty and staff through an email response from Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin on October 5, following an incident when a white student walked into a Legion of Black Collegians rehearsal for a Homecoming performance and started shouting racial slurs at participants.

Henson has been with the University since 2009. Before joining the University, Henson served as the vice president of Adelphia Communications, who provides legal guidance for human resources issues for 15,000 employees across 23 states.

His area of academic scholarship focuses on Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, creed, sex and national origin.

Henson’s appointment comes a day after UM System President Tim Wolfe and Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin stepped down from their respective positions.
