MU Student Suspended for Threatening Comments Related to American Sniper Editorial

The University of Missouri student conduct office has suspended a student for making threatening comments toward another student.  The comments were aimed at the author of a letter to the editor that was published in the Maneater. Farah El-Jayyousi wrote a letter to the paper explaining why the movie, “American Sniper” should not be shown on campus.

The student will be suspended until the formal conduct process is complete.

Christain Basi, Associate Director of the MU News Bureau said, “The student will now go before the student conduct board for a formal hearing process and once that process is complete, a formal sanction could be handed down depending on findings of the process.”

The MU police department has not released any new information on the case and encourages students to report these types of social media behaviors.

MU police department Captain Brian Weimer said, “If it’s something in our jurisdiction, report it to the police department so that they can give you the assistance that you need.”

The exact comments made by the student have not been released.
