North Callaway High School will host its first book fair at a Columbia Mall Barnes and Noble. The book fair is Saturday from noon until 5 p.m.

There will be several events at the fair, including a performance by the high school choir. There will also story time with North Callaway cheerleaders, skits by the high school drama club, story time with the

football team, and more. Justin Hamm, the North Callaway High School librarian, said the fundraiser will be fun for all audiences, and will provide support for the school district.

“It will be a really fun time for everybody who comes out and it’s for a great cause because it’s going help us improve our book collection in the high school and it will also show that the people in the North Callaway district support literacy,” Hamm said.

Hamm said he has done book fairs for elementary schools, but never for his high school. He said he wanted to take an approach the district has not taken yet to increase student readership in Kingdom City.

“Doing book fairs and events like that are some things that we’re definitely trying to do to get kids to read more and it’s working out pretty well,” Hamm said.

Proceeds will help the high school library purchase more books. You can also purchase books directly for the library.
