Republican Sara Walsh Wins House District 50

Republican incumbent Sara Walsh defeated Democrat Michela Skelton Tuesday to keep her seat as state representative for Missouri's House District 50.

Walsh beat Skelton in a rematch for the District 50 seat, receiving 59 percent of the vote.

This will be Walsh's first full term as a state representative.

Walsh also defeated Skelton in a 2017 special election after Caleb Jones resigned to become deputy chief of staff for former governor Eric Greitens.

Walsh said she was humbled by the fact that voters decided to stick with her.

"I've put my whole heart into this job the last year," Walsh said. "I've tried to attend every event that I could and really just help serve the people. And I was getting a lot of positive feedback, but now to see that confirmed with the numbers is just overwhelming."

Walsh said her first order of business will be finally unpacking her office.

Now, with a full two-year term, she said she'll be able to put her entire focus on pushing for higher education spending and workforce development.
