Santa comes early for some politicos, with end-of-year donations

Wealthy Republican donors are starting Christmas early. Somewhat uncharacteristically, GOP donor David Humphreys donated $25,000 to Democratic Governor Jay Nixon on Friday. Humphreys is the head of a Joplin based roofing company and usually donates exclusively to Republicans – in fact, he donated about $1.5 million to conservatives and conservative organizations just this year. Nixon was the only major Democrat Humphreys supported. But Humphreys isn’t the only one in the giving mood… Libertarian billionaire Rex Sinquefield gave $275,000 last Thursday to start a new political action committee called “Missourians for Excellence in Government.” Sinquefield is known for donating large sums of money to conservative causes.
