Kansas City Councilman Jermaine Reed, of the 3rd District, is one of a dozen candidates running for mayor.

Segment 1: After winning election to the Kansas City Council in 2011, Jermaine Reed now has his sights set on the mayor's office.

After two terms on the city council, Jermaine Reed tells how, if elected, he plans to take what he's learned as councilman and apply it to the city's highest office. Reed says "as mayor, I want to ensure we're investing in all area's of the community . . . making sure that we're dicussing greater economic development opportunites."


Segment 2, beginning at 28:10: Alon Goldstein on performing the First Piano Concerto.

Visiting UMKC professor Alon Goldstein hopes to bring new excitement to Rachmaninoff's music as he tackles a 27-minute piano piece. Goldstein say, "immersing myself in such incredible beauty and romanticism," brings him joy in playing the challenging ensemble.

Goldstein will perform at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, January 24 at Helzberg Hall, Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts 1601 Broadway Blvd., Kansas City, Mo. 64108. For more informations visit Kauffmancenter.org
