Missouri no-call list extends to cellphones

Missouri cellphone users can now register their numbers on the state’s no-call list under a bill signed by Governor Jay Nixon Thursday.

The law prohibits telemarketers from calling or texting those who sign up and gives the attorney general’s office the power to punish violators.  

Attorney General Chris Koster says the law expands Missouri’s no-call list enacted 12 years ago for land lines.   

“12 years ago the no-call list saved the dinner hour in this state," Koster said. "Today’s action extends that protection to a new technological era.”

Kirksville discusses storm water issue

The city of Kirksville is holding a public open house Thursday to discuss storm water issues on the city. Kirksville started an initiative two years ago to fix storm water problems like flash flooding and drainage in the city.

AmeriCorp shooting for 16,000 volunteers in Joplin

The city of Joplin will be getting more AmeriCorps volunteers to help with recovery and rebuilding following the tornado in May 2011. Wendy Spencer, the CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, which oversees AmeriCorps, says Rebuild Joplin will receive $2,800,000 in AmeriCorps funding.

McCaskill asked to reveal position on micro-unions

A group billing itself as non-partisan is calling on U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill (D, Missouri) to reveal where she stands on micro-unions.

Micro-unions are smaller groups of workers within an officially-sanctioned labor union.  The National Labor Relations Board (NRLB) issued a ruling last year that allowed the creation of micro-unions.  Jason Klindt with the Coalition to Protect Missouri Jobs says micro-unions are a threat to small businesses.
