Missouri State University Tent Theatre was preparing for their 58th consecutive season of plays and musicals performed in the big tent erected every spring behind Craig Hall by the MSU Theatre and Dance Department.
However, due to the Coronavirus, it was announced that "with heavy hearts, but sincere optimism for the future, Tent Theatre announces the cancellation of its 2020 summer season scheduled for June 10-July 18."
The "Note To Our Audience," published at https://tenttheatre.missouristate.edu, continues:
"Tent Theatre is unlike many summer companies. With close to 10,000 patrons each year, ticket sales and vending operations account for a significant portion of the operating budget. The difficult choice to cancel the 2020 summer season provides more stability for our company and safety for our patrons, thus ensuring our unique mission for the next generation of performers."
Staff at Missouri State TIX will handle calls and emails from patrons. Those who have already purchased tickets for the 2020 Tent season "may choose to donate the value of their tickets to the Tent Scholarship and Operations funds as a tax-deductible gift, redeem the vouchers for tickets for the 2021 season, or elect to receive a full refund."
Plans are to perform the three shows scheduled this year during the 2021 Tent Theatre season.
Please note that the entire Tent Theatre staff is operating remotely, and there may be delays in response time as we work to address all messages received. We ask for your continued patience as our team navigates this process and implements the next steps.
The public is invited to monitor the Missouri State University COVID-19 website, https://www.missouristate.edu/coronavirus/, for the latest campus updates. Missouri State University is committed to the health and well-being of students, staff and guests.
