The Shining Stars Early Childhood Center, part of Springfield Public Schools, will be renamed Friday, October 2.
The center will be called the Arthur Mallory Early Childhood Center. A renaming ceremony is planned for 4:30 this afternoon at the center, 2525 W. College.
According to SPS, the renaming will honor Mallory, who served as Missouri Commissioner of Education for 18 years and who helped guide the development of special education legislation in the state.
Mallory was president of Southwest Missouri State College (now Missouri State University) from 1964 to 1971 when he left to become the state's commissioner of education.
