It’s not yet known if the Springfield Public School District will follow new school guidelines on quarantine issued by the State of Missouri Thursday.

Governor Mike Parson and Missouri Education Commissioner Margie Vandeven said the new guidance will allow students exposed to COVID-19 in a student setting to remain in class as long as all parties were wearing face coverings—and wearing them correctly.

In a statement, SPS spokesman, Stephen Hall, said, once the new guidance is officially released, the district will work with the Springfield-Greene County Health Department to review implications for SPS.

He said, “That review will determine if changes are appropriate, and if so, the best time to implement any shift in our current practice. In the meantime, SPS will continue to follow our current protocols.”

Once SPS completes its review with the health department, district officials will share the details and timeline of any change in practice with SPS staff, parents and the community, according to Hall.
