Starting Wednesday (4/7), Brookside Drive, between Kings and Green Avenues in Springfield, will close for about seven months. The city is working on the Fassnight Creek Stormwater Improvement Project at that location, and the closure will allow for roadway and sanitary sewer construction.
According to the City of Springfield, a portion of the roadway, between Green and Linwood, will remain open to local traffic only. You’ll still be able to access the parking lot for Perry Tennis Courts, and access to the Springfield Art Museum will be maintained via Green Avenue to Bennett Street.
The project is part of the art museum’s master plan and includes the restoration of Fassnight Creek along Brookside Drive between Green and Kings Avenue. The creek is being restored to a more natural channel, which is expected to reduce the risk of flooding to the museum and surrounding houses. It’s also expected to improve water quality and create habitat for native birds and pollinators. You can find out more about the project at springfieldmo.gov/samstormwater.
