In 2014, the district had a k-12 enrollment of 17,204 students, which is 2% of the total k-12 enrollment for the state. Enrollment has been slightly increasing in recent years, 2% since 2011. While a small percent, that amounts to almost 400 more students. There have also been major re-drawing of attendance areas with the addition of Battle High School. Most everyone knows driving in the snow can be dangerous, and numbers from last week seem to confirm it.

The Columbia Police Department received reports of 38 accidents and 19 stalled vehicles Feb. 4, according to online dispatch data. That's the same day more than four inches of snow slammed the city, according to National Weather Service data gathered at Columbia Regional Airport. (Note: The weather service uses "snow boards" to measure snowfall.)

The graphic below shows how reports of accidents and stalled vehicles coincided with the storm.

For the record, Columbia Public Schools were closed every day last week. City offices and MU were closed Feb. 4-5.
