Blunt announces agricultural research to stay funded

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt says Missouri agricultural research will not see a reduction in funding next year.

By Christine Wendel

Senator Blunt spoke at the University of Missouri’s Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute Monday.  Blunt announced that some agriculture programs would see a 5 percent cut in funding in 2012, but research will not. The Senator said both MU’s Food and Agriculture Policy Research Institute and their Rural Policy Research Institute  should have no trouble receiving funds. He said the university has the advantages of a strong research focus and a good location.

“They’ll have to compete. But I think they have a huge competitive advantage and I assume they understand that advantage.”
