Blunt Tours Flood-Ravaged Communities

Missouri Senator Roy Blunt met with levee district officials Monday morning from Holt and Atchison counties—two of the hardest-hit areas from Missouri River flooding.

The senator says residents are looking to Washington for help locally.

“I think the biggest concern is the impact on local governments, the impact on schools when your tax base goes away,” he said. “So we need to start responding to these disasters in an appropriate way and then we need to seriously look at how the river is managed and flood control is at the top of the list. If you look at funding, you’d think flood control was at the bottom of that list.”

The Missouri senator is among lawmakers from seven states that are pushing the Army Corps of Engineers to revise their flood management plan up and down the Missouri River.
