Columbia opening hazardous waste facility

The city of Columbia is opening a Household Hazardous Waste Facility on Saturday.

Residents can dispose of any hazardous waste they accumulated over the winter such as batteries and cell phones. Nicholas Paul, the solid waste collection superintendent for the city has this advice.

“Make sure the lids are all on. And keep everything boxed up," says Paul. "When they do come into the facility, they’ll be volunteers will welcome to the site and everything. And all they have to do is stay in their vehicles and tell them what they have.”

The facility is open from eight to noon every first and third Saturday between April and November. For a complete list of hazardous items, visit the city of Columbia’s website.
