Columbia Public Works Moves Forward With Roundabout

Columbia City Council further discussed the possibility for a Sinclair Road and Route K round-about at its meeting last night. Columbia Public Works presented information, concerns, and progress on the planning, as well as opening up the floor for public comment. Resident Travis Miller says the roundabout will make the area safer.

“Especially with the roads not being aligned, it seems after bar hours, specifically, you have a number of people that have a hard time navigating those turns, and a lot of accidents and stuff like that, so I think it’ll be safer for everyone,” Miller said.

Nearby property owner Cynthia Burlison says the city has been attentive to her concerns.

“In 2001 when the Cascades were first being plotted out, and the long-range future of what would happen was outlined to us, the vision of what the planners had and what we’re now seeing being developed is indeed what was described then,” Burlison said.

According to Columbia Public Works, the round-about will realign Sinclair Road and Old Plank Road. The current plan will also aim to reduce speeding and accidents in the area in preparation for a new middle school in southwest Columbia.
