Columbia Voters Approve Water Bond Issue by Large Margin

Columbia residents voted overwhelmingly in support of a $42.8 million water bond issue in Tuesday’s primary election.

The final results, reported at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, showed “yes” on the water bond issue had received 19,289 votes and almost 82 percent of the overall vote.

The bond issue will be used to fund rehabilitation projects for the aging McBaine Water Treatment Plant as well as upgrades to the city’s wells and water distribution system.

Members of the Foundation for Columbia’s Future, a committee of local residents who have been actively promoting and advertising in support of the water bond, gathered Tuesday night at The Heidelberg for a party in support of the bond.
