Compass Health Network Teams with Blue Note to Raise Awareness for Mental Health

Compass Health Network is teaming up with the Blue Note this Saturday to present a concert to raise awareness for mental health.

Sara Evans, a country singer who has sold millions of records, will be performing at the Blue Note this Saturday. The goal is to raise awareness about mental health and get people to sign up for Compass Health Network’s Mental Health First Aid course.

“It’s an 8-hour course and it just gives you the skills to identify, understand and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health or substance abuse disorder,” Karen Cade, regional vice president of Compass Health Network, said.

Cade says it is often those that are close to someone that notice signs of mental health or substance abuse issues first.

“Those people that are going to see those things certainly are, you know, your family, your friends, your churches, your neighbors, your police officers; People that encounter people with mental health concerns before they actually get into treatment,” Cade said.

Cade also said it’s especially important for young people to get trained.

“Suicide is on the rise,” Cade said. “It’s one of the leading killers of particularly young people. Suicide is on the rise for veterans. If we can, as lay people, identify some of the symptoms of potential suicide, you can hopefully get people the help that they need to prevent that from happening.”

Attendees will have the option to sign-up for two free courses offered by Compass Health Network in Oct. 13 and Oct. 24.
