The Lawrence County Health Department announced nine deaths from COVID-19 on Monday. One was in their 50s, three were in their 60s, two were in their 70s, two were in their 80s and one was in their 90s. Seventy-eight new cases were added Monday in Lawrence County, and the health department is urging everyone to make “every effort to combat this deadly virus.”
The Joplin Health Department says two more residents have died of COVID-19. They are a 75-year-old woman and an 87-year-old man. That brings the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Joplin to 40.
In Greene County, another resident has died of COVID-19. The latest death was a man in his 80s. So far this month, 18 Greene County residents have died of the illness, and there’s been a total of 172 deaths since the pandemic began.
As of Monday morning, Greene County had a reported 11,392 COVID-19 cases, and 4,129 of them were active. There were 183 people hospitalized with the illness in Springfield, and 37 of them were in the ICU. Fifty-six were Greene County residents.
There had been a nine percent increase in reported cases in the past seven days.
