Forty-year-old Marie Brumbaugh, a medical assistant at a CoxHealth clinic in the Branson area, has died of COVID-19.

According to a news release from Cox, the source of the infection isn’t known with certainty.  But officials say there’s a possibility she may have contracted the virus while caring for a patient undergoing routine clinic care unrelated to COVID-19.  The patient needed to be unmasked for a short time during treatment and tested positive for the virus after the clinic visit.  But it’s possible, they say, that she acquired it in the community.

Brumbaugh “served patients with great kindness, compassion, and honor, prioritizing the health and safety of others,” according to CoxHealth president and CEO, Steve Edwards.

A scholarship and support fund has been established for Brumbaugh’s daughter at the CoxHealth Foundation.

Coxhealth officials hope Brumbaugh’s death will serve as a reminder to the community about the seriousness of the disease.
