The Springfield-Greene County Health Department is offering a way to let parents and children know which houses are practicing a safe Halloween this year during a pandemic.

If you plan to hand out candy and you’ve found a safe way to do so, you’re asked to decorate with the color purple.  That might include painting a pumpkin purple, using purple light bulbs or decorating the front door.

Some ways to offer candy to trick-or-treaters safely during the pandemic is to set treat bags out on the porch, at the end of a driveway or at the edge of a yard or make some sort of chute to send the candy to kids from a distance.

You can find advice to celebrate Halloween safely during the COVID-19 pandemic at health.springfieldmo.gov/holidaytips.
