Eight candidates vie for vacant Board of Education spot

Columbia Board of Education is looking for a new member to fill Paul Cushing’s vacated spot. Since October 10, four additional candidates have applied bringing the total to eight.

The new applicants include Missouri Assistant Attorney General Brianna Lennon, educator Vickie Rorvig, mother of three Rock Bridge graduates Donna Buchert, and Lincoln University professor Bill Tackett. Current board member Jonathon Sessions says when evaluating applicants, he is looking for someone who is a team player.

"Someone that’s come in with an open mind that recognizes what the job is what the job entails and what it means to Columbia as a community and to the students learning in Columbia is the kind of board member I’m looking for," said Sessions.

The Board of Education will interview applicants and make its selection on October 30.  The new Board of Education member will be sworn in at the regular meeting on November 12.
