Local artists have been busy making bowls to help raise money to fight hunger in the Ozarks.
The fifth annual Empty Bowls fundraiser to benefit Ozarks Food Harvest and its partner agencies will be held Friday, September 28, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Panera Bread on S. Campbell. The public is invited to stop by and make a donation to receive a handcrafted bowl and a meal of soup and bread from the restaurant.
Ozarks Food Harvest's director of development and communication, Denise Gibson, said each bowl is a reminder that ther are people in our community who don't have enough food. She said every dollar donated will provide four meals for people in need.
More than 300 bowls have been donated for the event, and each one will have a suggested donation amount and information about the artist who created it. Some bowls and platters will be auctioned off during a silent auction.
According to Ozarks Food Harvest, Empty Bowls has raised more than $22,000 to provide nearly 90,000 meals through the food bank's feeding programs since 2014.
