The Springfield Art Museum’s exhibit schedule next year includes a National Portrait Gallery traveling show.

“Eye to I:  Self Portraits from the National Portrait Gallery,” will be at the Springfield Art Museum October 17, 2020 to January 17, 2021.  It explores how American artists have chosen to portray themselves over the past two centuries.  The exhibit will include a variety of styles and media, from tiny caricatures to wall-sized photographs.  It will feature more than 75 works from 1901 to today.

Other exhibits next year will include “Framed:  The Art of the Picture Frame,” featuring more than 40 works from the museum’s permanent collection.

Another will be “This & That:  Cartoons by Bob Palmer,” who was Springfield’s longest-working cartoonist.  He created more than 10,000 political cartoons for the Springfield News-Leader.

And “The River:  Anne Austin Pearce and Thomas Hart Benton,” will be at the art museum next year.  It will feature contemporary Missouri artist Pearce’s works juxtaposed with those of artist Benton.  The common thread uniting these works, according to the museum, is Missouri’s waterways, which inspired both artists.
