In the days leading up to the election, Greene County Democrats and Greene County Republicans were busy placing yard signs and handing out literature among many other things.
KSMU checked in at the headquarters of the Greene County Democrats in Springfield Monday.
Executive director, Sam Smith, said there are concerns about voter intimidation, and Tuesday they’ll focus on making sure the election runs smoothly.
"All of the polling judges that are recruited--half them are Republicans, half of them are Democrats," he said. "As a product of that, we oversee the recruitment of those people, and they're our people, so we use them to make sure that the election goes smoothly and that noone is disenfranchised."
Smith said they have drivers on standby to offer rides to the polls.
Smith said they call the days just before the election GOTV or Get Out the Vote. That's when they contact those with a low turnout record at the polls and make sure they have everything they need to cast a ballot.
He arrived at work Monday morning at 7:30 and planned to be there until 8 or 9 p.m. After that, he planned to help put out yard signs. The party has placed more than 7,000 yard signs in the community since the election season began, according to Smith, and hundreds have been stolen.
U.S. Senator Roy Blunt visited the Greene County Republican Party headquarters Monday evening to greet volunteers as the party moved into the final stretch of the 2020 election.
