Harry Moore, Co-Host of KSMU's Seldom Heard Music, Dies at Age 76

Harry Moore was co-host of the long-running KSMU program, Seldom Heard Music, for 17 years.

Bluegrass fans and the KSMU community are grieving the loss of Harry Moore, co-host of the longtime KSMU bluegrass program, Seldom Heard Music. Moore died Wednesday in Springfield after a long illness.

Moore co-hosted the program as a volunteer for nearly 17 of the show's 37 years, bringing listeners his favorite bluegrass pieces each week alongside his co-host and friend, Mike Smith.

Harry Moore graduated from Central High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the 1960s then worked for the Frisco Railroad as a computer operator and programmer. He earned Bachelors and Masters degrees from Drury University and worked at several government agencies, retiring from the FDIC in Washington, D.C. 

He dedicated much of his retirement to volunteering. This included sharing his wealth of knowledge and contacts in the bluegrass world with KSMU and its listeners each week.

Moore was especially known for his appreciation of traditional bluegrass performers like Lester Flatt and Mac Wiseman.  He will also be remembered at KSMU for his gentle spirit, easy conversation, and humor.

Harry Moore was 76.
