Greene County health officials on Friday said two recent inviduals who tested positive for COVID-19 visited public places, potentially exposing others to the novel coronavirus that causes the disease.
Springfield-Greene County Health Department director Clay Goddard said while the risk to individuals who were at these locations remains low, they should monitor their health for symptoms:
- One recent positive case visited the Lowe’s in Republic on March 25 in the afternoon while contagious.
- Another case shopped at the Walmart Supercenter at Kearney and Glenstone on Friday, March 27 around 7:30 a.m. while symptomatic.
Goddard reminded the public that the health department conducts an investigation for confirmed cases, notifying people who are at risk. When officials can’t track down everyone who may have been in contact with that person, they notify the public with details like these.
Another person in Greene County has died from COVID-19, Goddard announced in the Friday briefing. The man was in his 60s, was immunocompromised, and was not part of the Morningside of Springfield East Assisted Living Facility, where five residents have died. This is the seventh death from COVID-19 in the county, according to a press release from the health department.
Goddard also emphasized that staying at home is critical right now. He thanked those local churches that have found ways to keep in touch with their congregations without meeting in person.
