An Excessive Heat Warning has been issued today through Saturday for several counties in southwest and central Missouri. A heat advisory is in effect for much of southern MO and Northern Arkansas.
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity over the next few days will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely, according to the National Weather Service. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors.
To help you stay cool, the Springfield-Greene County Park Board is extending hours tonight until 8 at Westport Pool and tomorrow until 8 at Silver Springs Pool. Grant Beach, Westport and Silver Springs Pools will be open until 8 on Friday, and Grant Beach, Westport, Silver Springs and Meador Pools will be open until 8 p.m. Saturday. Fassnight Pool will be open until 10 p.m.
All three Springfield-Greene County Park Board Family Centers, as well as Jordan Valley Ice Park, open their lobbies as free public cooling centers during Heat Advisories.Family Center locations and lobby hours are:
