Joplin's former master developer is contesting a $1.4 million judgment the city won against the firm for defaulting on its agreements.

Wallace Bajjali Development Partners, which was hired to help the city rebuild from the May 2011 tornado, filed a motion in Jasper County Court Friday challenging the judgment and seeking a new trial.

The city was awarded the money in May because the firm didn't reply to a lawsuit filed by the city and the Joplin Redevelopment Corp. after Wallace Bajjali left the city without notice in January.

Costa Bajjali said in an email to The Joplin Globe that the city's lawsuit violated Wallace Bajjali's due process rights.
