KBIA Wins Sigma Delta Chi Radio Documentary Award

A KBIA investigative report nearly a year in the making, Heartland, Missouri, received the national Sigma Delta Chi award for Radio Documentary journalism. Issued by the Society of Professional Journalists, Heartland is KBIA's first story to receive a Sigma Delta Chi award. News Director RyanFamuliner shares the award with co-author  MU Convergence student  Abigail Keel, and contributors  Casey Morelland  Janet Saidi.

"Heartland, Missouri was an ambitious story for a newsroom of our size to tackle, and it’s encouraging that the judges said we were able to tell the story well." Famuliner said.

Heartland also received two regional Edward R. Murrow awards, and is a contender for a national Murrow award in two categories.

The award will be presented to KBIA at the Sigma Delta Chi Awards banquet on June 26 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Austin Federa left KBIA in May of 2015.
