The Howell County Health Department reported a five-case increase of COVID-19 in the county on June 9. This brings the total of cases reported in Howell County to eighteen.Three of the latest cases live in the Peace Valley area and two are in West Plains.
Chris Gilliam, director of the Howell County Health Department, confirmed to KSMU that two of the latest cases were in long-term care facilities.
One of the cases has a connection to West Vue Green House #1, according to the health department. All employees and residents of that unit have been tested, and results are pending. Another is connected to Brooke Haven Healthcare in West Plains.
The five cases were traced to an outbreak in Mountain View. People who may have been exposed were contacted by the department. Howell County is working with Missouri’s Department of Health and Senior Services to track and respond to new cases.
The Howell County Health Department announced some potential COVID-19 community exposures:
· Walmart in West Plains, Sunday, May 30, from 2 to 3 p.m.
· Walmart in West Plains, Wednesday, June 3, from 2 to 3 p.m.
· Cash Saver in West Plains, Friday, June 5, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
· Chapala Restaurant in West Plains, Saturday, June 6, from 1 to 2 p.m.
· West Plains R-7 Graduation Ceremony, Saturday, June 6 (Those seated in the same area as the positive case have been notified)
Anyone at those locations at those times is at low risk for contracting COVID-19 but should monitor for symptoms. They should contact a healthcare provider if any develop.
