McDonald County Reports 235 COVID-19 Cases Over Father's Day Weekend, Neighboring Counties See Spike

Counties in the far southwest part of Missouri reported a large uptick in cases of coronavirus over the weekend.

OnJune 21 the McDonald County Health Department reported a 235 new cases of COVID-19, which brings the county’s total confirmed cases to 473 since the pandemic began. On Facebook, officials are warning against public gatherings and urging people to wear masks in public. And the Faceboook page of the health department of neighboring Newton County reported a spike of over 100 new cases over the weekend.  Newton and Jasper Counties make up the Joplin metro area.  Jasper County health department director Tony Moehr told KSMU last week that good handwashing and strict social distancing are more important than ever.
