Missouri Conservation Director Leaving For Private-Sector Job

provided

The Missouri Department of Conservation is looking for a new director. The organization announced Monday that Robert Ziehmer will step down from his position, which he’s held since 2010.

Ziehmer’s announcement signals the end of a 29-year career at the department, which started off with an hourly job as a fisheries biologist.

He will move on to a job in the private sector, which he said is “a very important player in the conservation field.”

In six and a half years as director of the conservation department, Ziehmer was tasked with renovating hatcheries, restoring elk populations and reaching out to public schools, among various other projects.

Ziehmer will stay at his post until July 15. The four volunteer members of Missouri’s Conservation Commission are tasked with finding his replacement. Ziehmer says he has “no regrets” about his time at the department.

“My professional career with the Department of Conservation has been, both on the personal front as well as the professional front, very rewarding,” Ziehmer said.
