The chairman of a committee that oversees Missouri's Medicaid program has been replaced amid a steep drop in people receiving health care through the program.
Timothy McBride was appointed chairman of the MoHealthNet Oversight Committee in 2013 by then-Gov. Jay Nixon.
He told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the state's top Medicaid official, Todd Richardson, removed him from the post in May.
McBride said he had sought answers about the decline in the number of Missourians receiving Medicaid coverage.
State data shows 90,000 children and 23,000 lost coverage in the last year. Gov. Mike Parson's administration is facing questions and calls for an investigation of the decline.
McBride said Tuesday that Richardson didn't say he was ousted because of his questions. He said Richardson told him new governors want to appoint their own people.
