Missouri Prisons Suspend Visits By Family and Friends For 30 Days

The Missouri Department of Corrections is taking action to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus in prisons.

It sent a letter to friends and families of inmates Thursday letting them know that it was suspending offender visiting for the next 30 days.

In the letter, the department points out that correctional centers are confined spaces where people have close contact. The letter reads “While we recognize that visiting is an essential part of rehabilitation, the department must protect the health and wellness of all who live in, work in, and visit state prisons.”

Attorney visits will be allowed.
